Pain
Ankylosing Spondylitis
Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of inflammatory arthritis that primarily affects the spine. The inflammation of the vertebra can lead to severe, chronic pain. Advanced cases of the condition can lead to the formation of new bone in the spine, leading to part of the spine becoming fused. The fusion of the spine results in reduced flexibility and can in some cases affect an individual’s posture. It may also cause inflammation in other parts of the body, including shoulders, ribs, hips, heels and the small bones of the hands and feet. Sometimes, it can affect the eyes and rarely it can affect the heart and lungs.
