TENS
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is an at home treatment that uses electrical impulses to prevents pain signals from reaching the brain. TENS has been used to treat chronic pain, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia and can be self administered upon evaluation from your doctor or physical therapist.

After an evaluation and machine set up by a professional, a TENS unit can be self operated, whenever needed. The unit consists of electrodes that are placed on the skin of affected areas and release small, electrical currents that result in a tingling or massaging sensation. These currents both negate the pain signal produced from an injury and increase endorphins that help combat pain signals.
If the TENS unit is overused or intensity is over adjusted, side effects can include muscle twitching and soreness as well as skin irritation due to the lack of changing pads.
