Coping With Side Effects
Side effects are unwanted or unexpected symptoms caused by medical treatments. For individuals with chronic pain, most side effects are a result of medication therapy. However, side effects can also develop from alternative treatments, supplements, implantable technology, injection therapy, RF ablation, or surgery.

Any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, can have side effects. The likelihood of experiencing a side effect depends on various factors: age, gender, allergies, use of other medications, use of vitamins or supplements, and how the body processes a specific medication. Side effects range from annoying, such as dry mouth, to life-threatening. When a medication is working effectively to treat the condition but side effects are an issue, it’s important to weigh the challenges of the side effects with the benefits of the treatment. Consulting the prescribing physician to discuss treatment options or alternatives is recommended
